1) Don't drink your calories. We've said it before and we'll say it again, this time with Bob Greene on our side. The stats are pretty shocking... Women gulp an average of 456 calories per day! Plus, since calories in liquid form are immediately absorbed by your body, they don't have a filling effect, so you'll get hunger sooner. The average American woman’s lifetime risk for developing breast cancer is one in nine. While that’s a scary statistic, you can take simple steps to lower the likelihood that you will develop cancer. Start hitting the gym. Studies have shown that women who work out regularly — and vigorously — have a 20 percent lower risk of developing breast cancer compared to those who rarely exercise. The morning weather was iffy today so we took our stroller exercise class indoors. Being stuck inside the mall means having to utilize a small space, limited equipment (resistance bands only), and little time (45-50 minutes before shoppers come). As an instructor that means I have to get creative to provide a challenging indoor workout for everyone. And sometimes that's where the wall comes into play. (more)

We usually like to do one big breakfast on the weekend but we missed out on that last weekend so we made up for it tonight. I made homemade waffles and we had some scrambled eggs (for protein) and fruit (for fiber) along with them. I could have added some whole wheat flour to the waffles (the recipe only called for all purpose) but this was the first time I made them so I didn't want it to go wrong. Seeing how they turned out, I would feel comfortable modifying a little the next time. The recipe also cal... (more)

Adopt one (or all) of these simple strategies to drop pounds and feel great! Remember when you were a kid and eating was as simple as "Open, chew, enjoy"? You didn't count the grams of fiber and fat in your PB&J. You munched when you were hungry, stopped when you were full and ran off to play with your Cabbage Patch Kids. But choosing a meal as a health-minded adult can be as complicated and joyless as a calculus final. Enough! Here are 20 commonsense rules that make eating right as easy as pie for you ... (more)

Even food-savvy consumers sometimes get it wrong when it comes to healthy eating. WebMD lists 5 common food misconceptions and mistakes. Buying Fresh Produce for the Entire Week Once fruits and vegetables are harvested, they start losing some of their vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. So keeping them in the crisper all week long can mean robbing yourself of nutrition. Instead, buy fresh produce every few days and supplement it with frozen fruits and vegetables. Itchy, flaky, dry skin is a common issue among fit women because they often shower twice a day — once in the morning, and once after a workout. The water washes away the natural oils in your skin that protect it from drying out. On top of that, now that cooler temps are moving in for many of us, we're indulging in longer, hotter showers to warm us up, which dries our skin out even more. If you want to do your largest organ a favor, aim to be under the water for less than 10 minutes, and opt for warm wa... (more)

Cowpooling: People looking for humanely raised meat, or just a better-tasting burger, are joining up to buy directly from the ranch. Picture a meat eating, bone sucking, finger-licking carnivore — not exactly the face of an environmentalist, right?
